Rev. Gary Shaw

The Reverend Gary L. Shaw,  Lead Pastor

Rev. Gary L. Shaw was appointed to Carter Memorial United Methodist Church in July of 2010. An ordained minister since 1978, Reverend Shaw was ordained in the former New Hampshire Conference and served the Amesbury United Methodist Church in Amesbury, MA. After completing that pastorate, he worked in engineering and sales for Eastern Manufacturing Corporation. In 1986 he was appointed to Wesley United Methodist Church in Lynn, MA and in 1996 to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chelmsford, MA. He was appointed as the District Superintendent to the former Southern Maine District of the New England Conference and then to the Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts District of the New England Conference. Gary is married to Melanie (Zervas) Shaw of Ipswich, MA. Melanie and Gary have two children; Leslyn who is a graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, VA and is an elementary school teacher in Norfolk, VA and Steven who is a junior in high school. Ashley Murphy, Director of Faith Formation

Ashley joined the team in August, 2013.  She is a graduate of Boston University School of Theology and has worked in Christian Education for over a decade. Ashley is married to Christopher and they have a daughter, Emelia, who was born in 2012 and a son, Jackson, who was born in 2017.  You can reach Ashley at dce>

Aaron Rosenthal

Aaron Rosenthal, Staff Accompanist

Aaron Rosenthal plays piano and organ at Carter Memorial, where he also serves as choir accompanist.  He teaches music privately and at the Suzuki School of Newton and also works as a freelance pianist, composer and arranger around the greater Boston area.  Aaron particularly enjoys composing solo piano, choral, and chamber music, and he writes for musicians of all ages and level of experience.  One of his most frequently performed works -- Voices of Terezin, a setting of children's poetry from the Holocaust -- has been performed on four continents and is published in versions for mixed and women's chorus.  Aaron also writes and plays keyboards for indie pop/rock band This Blue Heaven.  Aaron is married to Mia Motobuchi and has two daughters, Ella and Serena.




Kathie Zeman, Operations Manager

Kathie joined the staff at Carter the fall of 2000 and is essential to all ministries here at Carter Memorial United Methodist Church. Kathie is married to Ray and they have 2 children, Sarah Wilder who is an elementary school teacher in Old Orchard Beach, ME and Gregory who is an environmental/ecology specialist in MA.  Her email is and the office hours are 8:30 - 1:30 pm Monday through Friday. For July and August office hours are 8:30 am - noon.
